    Top 5 Questions About LASIK

LASIK may be one of the most popular eye surgeries in the world, but if you’re like millions of other patients, you may have a few questions about the procedure. At the Beverly Hills Medical Center of Kuwait, our surgeons and ophthalmologists have compiled some of the most common questions about this well-known and sought-after procedure!

Top Five Questions About LASIK Beverly Hills Kuwait

    Top 5 Questions About LASIK

    Q: How does LASIK work?

A: LASIK works by correcting the shape of the cornea, which determines whether or not a patient suffers from myopia or hyperopia. Myopia, also known as nearsightedness, occurs when the cornea has too much curvature, while hyperopia occurs when a cornea doesn’t have enough curvature. Both conditions are able to be fixed with LASIK! During a LASIK procedure, a circular flap is created on the cornea, which exposes an excimer laser to the underlying corneal bed. Then, a highly specialized laser reshapes the cornea, ultimately providing patients with corrected vision!

Q: What’s the difference between LASIK and Femto-LASIK

A: Unlike traditional LASIK, in which a corneal flap is created using a steel blade, during Femto-LASIK this flap is created by a laser, making the entire process completely bladeless! Besides this one difference, LASIK and Femto-LASIK are otherwise the same. Both procedures are safe and effective at correcting a patient’s vision, and both surgeries are long-lasting and have high patient-satisfaction rates!

Femto-LASIK is an ultra-precise and incredibly safe procedure performed at the Beverly Hills Medical Center of Kuwait. Our physicians are experts in performing this technologically-advanced and state of the art form of LASIK. To learn more, please call +(965)-222-89999 today!

    Q: Am I a candidate for LASIK?

A: Patients who desire to undergo LASIK must meet the following criteria.

    • Patients must be free of eye injuries, infections, or diseases.
    • Patients must not have any corneal scarring. Scars on the cornea could affect how the cornea is reshaped.
    • A patient’s cornea must be thick enough. If a patient has thin corneas, he or she may consider PRK instead.
    • Patients should not be pregnant or nursing.

Although LASIK candidacy is determined by many factors, it is ultimately dependent on a doctors’ prognosis.

    Q: Does LASIK hurt?

A: Not at all! During a LASIK procedure, patients are provided with special eye drops that numb the eye. After the procedure has been performed, patients may experience a slight discomfort in the eye (which is usually described as “gritty” and compared to having a lash in the eye. To help deal with this discomfort, our expert ophthalmologists provide patients with pain medication after LASIK has been performed.

Q: What is the recovery process for LASIK?

A: As mentioned, it’s normal for a patient to experience slight discomfort after a LASIK procedure. To help recover quickly and successfully, it’s highly recommended that patients do not rub or scratch their eyes during the healing process. Doing so could dislodge the corneal flap.

Immediately after LASIK, patients may be sensitive to light and will not be allowed to drive home. It’s highly recommended that patients bring a friend or family member to their LASIK procedure. Doing so can help ensure that you make it home safely, where you can continue your recovery in the comfort of your own home! Patients should expect a noticeable improvement to their vision within a few days of surgery.
